Research Experience

Research Assistant

University of Illinois Chicago Aug 2020 – Present

Pharmacoepidemiology

Supported multiple projects by designing real-world studies, building analytic cohorts, developing screening algorithms, optimizing analysis workflows, running statistical analyses, and writing reports and manuscripts. Projects include:

  • Adherence to Prescription Proton Pump Inhibitor Therapy in Individuals Diagnosed with Barrett’s Esophagus.
  • Factors associated with oseltamivir dispensing for high-risk of influenza complications in children: A retrospective cohort study using commercial claims.
  • Examining thrombophylaxis utilization patterns in multiple myeloma patients using immunomodulatory drugs (IMiDs).
  • A High-throughput Drug Safety Signal Detection of Roflumilast Using Sequence Symmetry Analysis (2011-2021).
  • Pathologic complete response amongst non-metastatic esophageal carcinoma patients who received neoadjuvant therapy: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Pharmacoeconomics and Decision Modeling

Supported multiple projects by systematically reviewing the literature and collecting model inputs, implementing different decision modeling methods (decision trees, Markov models, and microsimulations), optimizing model performance and reproducibility in R, and writing reports and manuscripts. Projects include:

  • Cost-effectiveness and budget impact analysis of Artificial Intelligence-driven risk stratification in US Veterans with diabetic kidney disease (DKD).
  • Diabetes outcomes model using a multi-ethnic, real-world-data cohort of newly diagnosed Type II diabetic patients in the United States.

Health Policy and Pharmacy Practice

Supported multiple projects by preparing IRB protocols, conceptualizing study goals and study design, data cleaning and analysis. Projects include:

  • The effect of the removal of sobriety restriction for hepatitis C virus treatment access on sustained virologic response in U.I. Health patients.
  • The Impact of Pharmacist-managed Medication Therapy Management program supported through 340B savings on COVID-19 vaccination rates among a vulnerable population in UI Health.
  • Estimation of potential cost savings from alternative reimbursement models for clinician-administered drugs among Medicare cancer patients.

Minia University Jun 2015 – Sep 2016

Evaluation of the Quality of Pharmacy Practice in Upper Egypt

  • Designed, crafted, and implemented a simulated patient cross-sectional field study to evaluate pharmacy practice in Upper Egypt.
  • Led a team of undergraduate researchers to collect data from community pharmacies to assess the quality of practice.
